FIBROMYALGIA

Fibromyalgia is a long-term pain condition that can cause tiredness, poor sleep, brain fog, and feeling like your normal life takes way too much of your energy while having pain all over the body.

The CDC says people with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain because of abnormal pain processing. In plain English, the nervous system turns the volume up too high.

The exact cause is not fully known. FIBROMYALGIA affects 2–4% of people, usually women. People who have other chronic conditions (such as rheumatic diseases) are at higher risk of having fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory or autoimmune disease. Research points toward nervous system sensitivity, poor sleep, stress load, past illness or trauma, genetics, inflammation signals, and other health problems.

Fibromyalgia pain can show up all over your body. The pain may be above or below the waist, on both sides of the body, or it may feel like it moves around. Common trouble areas include the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs.

As if the pain, tiredness and brain fog aren't enough, individuals with fibromyalgia may also experience other symptoms such as headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, and sensitivity to touch, noise, or temperature.

What if your pain is real, even when the tests look “normal”?

Fibromyalgia pain is real, it is not in your head but it is in your nervous system. Many people with fibromyalgia have labs or imaging that do not explain how bad they feel. That does not mean nothing is wrong.

It means your body’s alarm system is turned up too high. The goal is not to prove you are hurting, that is obvious.

The goal is to help your body stop acting like normal life is a threat. Chiropractic care addresses the overall function of your nervous system in an effort to restore more normal function.

Why does your whole body hurt when you did not do anything wrong?

With fibromyalgia, your body consistently overreacts to normal stress. A bad night of sleep, too much activity, emotional stress, weather changes, poor recovery, or even doing too much on a "good day” can flare symptoms.

Your body is not lazy. It is overloaded. The fix is not to shame it into working. The fix is to teach it safety, pacing, strength, and better recovery.

Why are you so tired, even after sleeping?

Fibromyalgia often comes with poor sleep quality. You may be in bed long enough, but your body may not recover well. That is why you can wake up feeling like you wrestled a bear in your sleep. Fatigue is not a character flaw; it is part of the condition.

Your sleep, stress, movement, nutrition, pain and nervous system function all have to be addressed together.

Can fibromyalgia be cured, or do you just have to live with it?

What if doing more exercise makes you worse?

That can happen when the plan is too much, too soon. Fibromyalgia patients do not need a “crush yourself” plan.

You need a smart plan: small, steady, gentle movement often works better than big bursts. The goal is to build tolerance slowly, so your body learns that movement is safe again.

what are your solutions to Fibromyalgia?

At AFC AZ The Alpha 5 Phase System is a good fit for someone suffering with fibromyalgia because you need a plan, not random care.

First, we work to Relieve stress on the system.

Then we Realign movement, posture, breathing, and body mechanics.

Next, we Rebuild strength and tolerance slowly, without overwhelming the body.

Then we Retrain daily habits, pacing, sleep routines, and safer movement patterns.

Finally, we help you Reclaim function and maintain progress.

The goal is not to force your body into change, we may never figure out how you ended up here. So the goal is to help your body feel safe enough to move, recover, and live again. And then continue to manage it appropriately so you can do as many of the things you want to with the least amount of pain and FOMO.

This is a strategic approach to addressing your overstressed nervous system and is best in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary approach.

Some people come to our website and are ready to make an appointment right away. Others come to our website and are still unsure of whether chiropractic is worth trying or they may be unsure whether AFC AZ is the right fit.

For those people, The Body Fix Assessment is the right place to start: it's a short visit with abbreviated intake paperwork, a 5 test functional exam and a short consultation with the doctor. It allows a potential patient to "check the place out", get a feel for the energy, the doctor the staff, the drive over :) and at the end of it know whether they would like to move forward with us, someone else or something else.

No pressure. Just sitting down knee to knee with an actual doctor that looks you in the eyes and talks to you instead of over you. If this is what you are looking for, then
