PREGNANCY, KIDS & FAMILIES 💖

Pregnancy brings fast changes to the body. Muscles stretch. Posture changes. Joints carry new loads.

Dr. C refers to it as an "alien takeover". Very tongue in cheek :) But anyone who has actually been pregnant will tell you the same thing: your body is no longer your own and it no longer works the way it used to. And it never will again. And its worth it.

Kids grow, fall, climb, play sports, sit at desks, and somehow sleep folded like lawn chairs.

Chiropractic care can help Mom with muscle, joint, posture, and movement problems associated with pregnancy, labor and the body left after its all done.

***We have a special table that drops open for your belly. AND we can lift your head and neck so there is less pressure on your "chest" ... Game Changer.

Here are five of the most commonly searched questions regarding chiro care for pregnancy and kids.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

You are already protecting a tiny human. Is trying chiropractic care really safe?

For many women with uncomplicated pregnancies, chiropractic care can be a huge relief for back, hip, pelvic, or joint discomfort.

Pregnancy care does not necessarily look exactly like regular adult care. Your changing belly, loose ligaments, comfort level, medical history, and stage of pregnancy all matter. The table, positioning, pressure, and adjusting method should be changed for you.

Before beginning care, tell the chiropractor:

How far along you are

Whether your pregnancy is considered high risk

Whether you have bleeding, contractions, placenta problems, high blood pressure, severe headaches, dizziness, or other complications

What your obstetrician or midwife has recommended

Spinal adjustments have a good safety record when properly performed, but as with anyone you add to your HealthCare Team, you should feel confident and comfortable with your Chiropractor. NCCIH recommends discussing pregnancy and other health conditions with the practitioner and not using complementary care to delay needed medical treatment.

Can Chiropractic Care Help Pregnancy Back, Hip, or Sciatic Pain?

Your back and hips hurt, but everyone keeps telling you it is “just pregnancy.” Do you really have to live with it?

Pregnancy changes how your entire body carries weight. As your belly grows, your center of gravity moves forward. Y our abdominal muscles stretch. Hormones loosen the ligaments around your pelvis. Your back, hips, gluteal muscles, and pelvic joints may begin doing jobs they were not built to do alone.

Chiropractic care may help some women by addressing:

Stiff or irritated spinal and pelvic joints.

Muscle tension around the hips and lower back.

Painful movement patterns.

Posture changes resulting in difficulty getting comfortable in all positions including sitting, standing, walking, or sleeping.

Our goal is to help your body move and carry the pregnancy with less strain.

When Should a Pregnant Woman Start Chiropractic Care?

Do you need to wait until the pain becomes unbearable before asking for help?

No. You do not earn a prize for waiting until you cannot roll over in bed, put on your shoes, or get out of the car.

How often someone should receive care depends on:

The cause of the pain.

How severe it is.

The stage of pregnancy.

How the body responds.

The woman’s medical history.

Her ability to perform safe movement and home exercises.

There is not a one size fits all schedule.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Babies?

A baby is tiny. Why would anyone adjust one, and how gentle is gentle enough?

A adjustment on a baby looks nothing like an adult adjustment. The thing we hear most often: we did not even know you were adjusting him/her.

As a new parent, especially if you are a first time parent, handing your baby over to another person is so tough. And if that person is going to "do something" to your child, ooph.

At AFC AZ, we prefer to take care of Mom and baby together. You have just endured labor or surgery, sometimes both, which is obviously a form of trauma :) for both of you!

Babies come in to see us for a variety of reasons: colic, skin eczema, head to turn only one direction, hips that don't feel like they move right.

At the end of the day, Mom, if you feel like something is not right, then Trust Your Instincts, and don't let anyone stand in your way.

Why Would a Child See a Chiropractor?

Kids bounce back from everything, right? Sometimes they do. Sometimes they quietly change how they move.

Children fall, climb, carry backpacks, spend hours looking down at devices, play sports, and grow quickly.

Older children and teenagers may develop muscle, joint, back, neck, or posture related complaints.

A chiropractic evaluation may be considered when a child has:

Back or neck pain

A sports related muscle or joint problem

Pain with movement

Reduced mobility

Postural strain

A problem already evaluated by the child’s pediatrician

The goal is to evaluate the challenge, properly diagnose it, accurately create a care plan, adjust and do the matching homework and refer if necessary.

How the Alpha 5 Phase System May Support Postpregnancy Recovery

Giving birth does not instantly return the body to its pre-pregnancy setting. That body is gone. Pregnancy stretches the abdominal wall, changes breathing patterns, increases stress on the pelvis, and changes how the back and hips handle weight.

CH

Then the baby arrives, and the new mother begins feeding, lifting, carrying, bending, rocking, and sleeping in whatever position allows five minutes of rest.

Postpartum back, neck, and joint pain may be connected to muscle strain, abdominal weakness, hormonal changes, and the physical demands of caring for a newborn; in addition to the mental and emotional components.

The Alpha 5 Phase System offers a step by step way to rebuild into your new "Mom Bod".
